Senior Legal Researcher

Job Role:
The jobholder will lead the legal function of GMCo (the “Legal Function” or “Division”) and provide counsel and legal advice on activities conducted by GMCo, relevant legal and regulatory aspects of government relationships, contracts, corporate and other areas of business. The role combines general legal commercial issues and involves advising on the legal aspects of banking and financial services relevant to GMCo.

Key Accountabilities & Activities:
Conduits the legal advice and assistance required by GMCo on a wide range of legal issues relating to its activities, including but not limited to interpreting laws and regulations and advising on the legal and regulatory requirements and implications in areas such as banking, commercial, corporate and employment as well as on governance and internal matters. Advises the Board and the President on all legal and risk issues relating to GMCo, provides advice on litigation and all other forms of dispute resolution remedial measures. Reviews, drafts and negotiates all contracts, agreements and arrangements on behalf of GMCo. Ensures that any general commercial agreements entered by GMCo are consistent with GMCo’s statutory tasks and objectives, all legal and regulatory requirements applicable to it and its internal policies and procedures.

  • Provides advice on legal and regulatory matters arising in relation to GMCo.
  • Carries out or oversees all internal and external investigates in relation to any matters internal to GMCo, including any violations of GMCo’s internal policies and procedures or applicable laws.

Qualifications & Requirements:
Knowledge:

  • General knowledge and understanding of financial services laws and related practices, and financial services regulation (particularly prudential regulation of banks), of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and its member countries.
  • General knowledge of commercial practices, banking, economics, international and regional market economies, politics, and business. Excellent computer skills.

Education
Bachelor’s degree in law (i.e. LLB) or equivalent legal qualification, advanced degree, or conversion course in law. Experience

  1. Minimum of 5-7 years of experience practicing law, either in government, private practice or in-house
  2. Experience working as a legal officer to a large organization.
  3. Extensive experience in drafting and negotiating commercial contracts in Arabic and English, including consideration of data protection, IP and IT related issues in a banking context.

Job related Skills

  • Legal drafting in legislation or regulations, scientific law research in the financial sector.
